Findings from new Ponemon Institute research.
Healthcare data is a hot destination for criminals, according to the Fifth Annual Benchmark Study on Privacy & Security of Healthcare Data by Ponemon Institute. According to the FBI, healthcare data now sells for $60 to $70 for each patient record. It’s no wonder, then, that the study found criminal attacks are up 125 percent in the last five years, and that it has become the new leading cause of data breaches in healthcare.
For the first time, the study includes business associates and the impact these third parties have on the privacy and security of patient data. Data breaches for both covered entities and business associates continue to be costly. The average cost of data breaches for covered entities surveyed is now more than $2.1 million while average cost to business associates in the study is more than $1 million.
In this webinar, Dr. Ponemon will share highlights from the study which asked healthcare organizations and business associates about their experience with data incidents, data breaches, incident risk assessments, emerging threat vectors and data protection measures. Rick Kam, Co-Founder and President at ID Experts will share practical actions organizations can take to manage their data breach and incident risks, and maintain the privacy and security of healthcare data.
