Report Summary

Criminal attacks are the leading cause of half of all data breaches in healthcare, according to the Sixth Annual Benchmark Study on Privacy and Security of Healthcare Data by the Ponemon Institute. The study also found healthcare organizations feel vulnerable to data breaches and lack the resources to address cyber threats and keep patient data safe. For the second year, the study has been expanded beyond healthcare organizations to include business associates. Represented in this study are 91 covered entities and 84 business associates.
